Our Story

In 1916, one of many car showrooms of Locust Street’s Historic Automotive Row was constructed. In 2005, Joy Grdnic purchased this building and started an incredible journey to create the amazing Fountain on Locust, which opened its doors in 2008.

From the Supreme Car Company to The Fountain on Locust
The Fountain on Locust building housed The Supreme Car Co. which sold the Stutz Blackhawk and the Stutz Bearcat, both considered top-of-the-line high-performance sports sedans of the day. Typically, two cars were on display and if you wanted one, they would build it to order in the back garage space.

Just like the care that went into each custom-built Stutz, the team at The Fountain creates their own handcrafted ice cream sauces, and deliciously unique, freshly made-from-scratch soups, salads, and sandwiches. Expect a higher level of service - and to leave with a full belly and a full heart after each visit.

Whether you’re visiting for lunch or dinner, business or romance, be sure to try one of The Fountain’s Signature Ice Cream Martinis, Retro Cocktails, or Champagne Floats. You are invited to sit in the west side bar booths to listen to the only Restaurant Radio Comedy Serial, “Soap Hospital,” with a new episode every two minutes! Every visit you make will be an experience like no other, like The Fountain on Locust itself!

And always leave room for a special Fountain ice cream — voted St. Louis’ best!

In 2021, local restauranteurs Danni & Marcus “Ike” Eickenhorst stepped into ownership at The Fountain on Locust, allowing Joy to retire. The Eickenhorsts were hand-picked to be Joy’s successor because of their business experience - and their love for St. Louis - and it absolutely takes both of their talents to fill Joy’s very big shoes. Danni and Ike have long considered The Fountain on Locust to be one of their favorite date night spots - a place that embodies pure imagination and a playful romantic spirit. While they’ve certainly put their spin on this institution in time, their focus is to protect the legacy that Joy has built.

The Fountain is now part of the huSTL Hospitality Group of restaurants - along with Steve’s Hot Dogs and Steve’s Meltdown.

The Fountain is expanding with a second location to come in spring of 2024 in the Delmar Maker’s Locale! Follow us on social media for the latest updates on the new location.
